Fifteen Years on This Coast
A California beach family went looking for something California doesn’t have anymore. Fifteen years later, we’re still here.
Our Story
We’re a California beach family who went looking for something California doesn’t have anymore.
Fifteen years ago, in 2010, we drove south past the crowds and the development until we found it: three open acres right on the Pacific, in the quiet coastal town of Primo Tapia.
We fell in love with the beach, the wine country, the music, and the easy, generous spirit of the people here — and we never left.
Rosarito is famous for its beaches, its nightlife, and its quick hop from San Diego. What started as a place to live became a place to share.
Over the years we’ve welcomed more than 300 weddings and celebrations, building each villa by hand, one at a time. No two doors are the same.
No two rooms are alike. Everything you see — the furniture, the artwork, the hand-carved stone — was made locally, by people whose families have lived on this coast for generations.
From Our Family to Yours
We still greet every guest ourselves
We give you a personal tour when you arrive, walk you down to the beach, and by the end of your stay we know your kids’ names — and your dog’s. That’s not a service standard; it’s just how we host.
It’s also why we’re a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice winner and the #1-rated restaurant in Primo Tapia. When guests describe their stay, the word that comes up most isn’t “luxury.” It’s “family.”
Where We Are: Primo Tapia
Casa Playa Baja sits in Primo Tapia, a small, peaceful town on the coast between San Diego and Ensenada — about 45 minutes south of the San Diego border and just south of Rosarito.
Close to everything, but a world apart in pace and feel. Tucked between the ocean and the foothills, away from the highway, it’s the kind of place where horseback riders still pass on the road and you can count more churches than liquor stores.
We have everything you’d want close by — supermarkets, Costco, Walmart, and gas stations; taco stands and a coffee shop a short walk away; fiber-optic internet for staying connected — and yet, half our property faces nothing but ocean, dolphins, and whales, and the other half opens onto countryside, horses, and quiet.
A Place That Feels Like a Postcard
The sunsets here look painted on — orange and red across the whole sky, every evening.
At night the Milky Way comes out over the water, with distant city lights twinkling across the bay.
The water is clean and swimmable year-round, the weather sits between 65 and 75 degrees almost all the time, and it rains only a handful of days a year.
It’s so photogenic that film, television, and music-video productions use this coast as a backdrop — and guests find that, phone in hand, every corner of the property turns into a postcard.
